Sanguisorba officinalis 'Tanna'

Sanguisorba officinalis 'Tanna', commonly known as great burnet, is a compact, clump-forming perennial with fine, feathery blue-green foliage and upright stems topped with small, dark crimson to burgundy flower heads. Blooming from July to September, these nodding blooms add an airy, elegant quality to planting schemes.

This variety reaches a height of about 40 to 50 cm, making it more compact than the species. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, fertile, yet well-drained soils. It is ideal for naturalistic plantings, prairie gardens, or as a border accent, especially when combined with grasses.

Low maintenance, it simply needs old stems removed in early spring. 'Tanna' is fully hardy and seldom needs division.

Ecologically, this plant is valuable for pollinators like bees and butterflies, especially in late summer when floral resources are declining.
