An elegant shrub with large semi-double flowers that show their golden stamens. The flowers are in small clusters and have the strong sweet scent of the old roses. They are pink and fade to white, whereby the golden yellow stamens stand out. The plant has an upright growth and a grey-green, dense oval leaf. Good as a solitary, in a group or hedge.
The rose is named after Jacques-Martin Cels who introduced the rose in France and called it 'Belle Couronnée'. The name 'Celsiana' was taken over from C.A. Thory, the author of 'Roses' (1828) who described the illustrations of Pierre-Joseph Redouté. He called this rose 'Celciana' or 'Rosier de Cels'. According to Cels, one of the largest growers in France, this rose would come from the Low Countries (Netherlands, Belgium) and was known before 1756.
