Low-growing cranesbill with soft blue flowers and spreading growth. Perfect as a groundcover or border plant in sunny to part-shaded garden areas. Ideal in combination with roses.
Geranium himalayense 'Baby Blue' is a charming, low-growing cranesbill with a spreading habit and abundant sky-blue blooms. It forms soft mounds 30 to 40 cm in height and up to 60 cm wide. From June through August, it produces masses of rounded, soft blue flowers with violet undertones and prominent veining, each with a contrasting dark eye that is highly attractive to bees and other pollinators.
This perennial thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, humus-rich soils. It also tolerates light shade, such as beneath deciduous shrubs or along woodland edges. Hardy and slowly spreading by short rhizomes, it makes an excellent groundcover without becoming invasive.
Maintenance is low: after flowering, plants can be cut back to promote fresh foliage and sometimes a second bloom. 'Baby Blue' is ideal for borders, underplanting roses or shrubs, or in naturalistic plantings thanks to its informal, relaxed look.
