Although the name refers to Japan, this moss rose originates from France. The main attraction of this moss rose is the beautiful, light green, dense moss covering not only the flower bud but also the entire stem and some of the leaves. The medium-sized flowers are pinkish-purple with nances, double, but open loosely and irregularly. It blooms once from mid-June. The foliage is sage green with a red tinge when young. The branches are stiff. Even without flowers, it is a rarity and a valuable garden plant.
