Beautiful, elegant, spreading shrub with arching branches. In May the branches are covered with creamy white single flowers along their entire length. They show their yellow stamens and have a sharp spicy scent. Single brown-black hips appear from July. The leaves are fern-like and the stems are bristly with spines and brown. Found along the sand dunes at Dunwich, Suffolk UK.
It is often praised for its low maintenance as it requires no pruning and is disease resistant. The rose is used in ornamental gardens for massifs, as a solitary or as a hedge and to give colour and flowering in a rose garden in May before all the other roses start to bloom.
